William Vergani
William Vergani was an artist active during the mid-1930s, documented specifically between 1935 and 1937. Vergani’s known output is associated with the Index of American Design, a key initiative of the Federal Art Project that focused on comprehensively documenting American decorative, folk, and utilitarian arts.
The five works currently represented in museum collections demonstrate this specialized focus on material culture documentation. These include renderings of various domestic and personal objects such as the Pocket Case, Ladies Toilet Set, Candlestick, and Egg Cup, alongside a single descriptive item titled Portrait.
Vergani’s work is held in major institutions, including the National Gallery of Art. Because these historical renderings are often federal documentation, many of William Vergani's prints and studies now reside in the public domain, allowing for the reproduction of high-quality prints for research and collection purposes.
