W.F. Barber

W.F. Barber was a printmaker active in the mid-19th century, specifically documented around 1850. The artist’s extant body of work demonstrates a focus on genre scenes, architectural studies, and still life compositions characteristic of the period’s graphic arts.

Six known W.F. Barber prints are preserved in museum collections, confirming the artist’s contribution to the visual record of the era. The subjects represented include detailed domestic interiors, such as the two variations of Gezicht in een oude gang (View in an old hallway) and Interieur met een trap (Interior with a staircase). Other documented works illustrate genre scenes of daily activity, exemplified by Melkmeisje brengt een kan bij een dame, or focus on detailed inanimate subjects, such as the arrangement depicted in Stilleven met kruik en een kandelaar op een boek.

These historical works are represented in the permanent holdings of the Rijksmuseum, establishing the artist's historical relevance. Today, W.F. Barber prints are frequently available as high-quality prints via digitization efforts, often serving as examples of 19th-century subjects held in the public domain.
