Virgilius Solis
Virgilius Solis was an artist known primarily for his work in printmaking, active around the documented year of 1524. Solis’s production centered on religious and decorative themes, utilizing the print medium common to the period.
Fifteen of the artist's prints are represented in major international museum collections, establishing his presence within early sixteenth-century European artistic output. His compositions include significant biblical narratives, such as De Annunciatie, De Schepping (The Creation), Doop van Christus (Baptism of Christ), and H. Bartholomeus. Also documented is the decorative work Fries met drie medaillons met busten.
The primary institutional holder of Virgilius Solis prints is the Rijksmuseum, which preserves these examples for historical study. Many of these historical works are now in the public domain, making high-quality prints and related imagery readily accessible.
