Portrait of Theodoor Koning

Theodoor Koning

Theodoor Koning was an artist known for his historical and architectural prints, active during an extensive period spanning 1779 through 1880. While biographical details are sparse, Koning’s verified output consists entirely of intaglio and relief printing.

Thematically, Koning focused heavily on Dutch history and topographical documentation. Fifteen prints attributed to the artist are represented in institutional collections.

The professional standing of the artist is confirmed by the preservation of his work in leading cultural institutions. The Rijksmuseum holds several of these historical compositions. Many of Theodoor Koning prints, documenting significant Dutch events and architecture, have entered the public domain and are often reproduced today as high-quality prints for researchers and collectors.
