Rolland Ayres

Rolland Ayres was active as an artist and draftsman during the late 1930s, documenting designs between 1935 and 1939. His contribution is specifically linked to the Index of American Designs, a vast initiative focused on illustrating and preserving the details of historic American decorative and folk arts.

Six of Ayres’s technical designs are preserved in museum collections, confirming his role in documenting this historical record. These detailed studies focus on objects of daily life and craftsmanship, including illustrations of a Baby Carriage, a Goose Neck Cutter, a Cigar Store Indian, and a Hand Carved Mirror Frame. These designs are held by the National Gallery of Art, establishing their museum-quality status and historical value. Because the originals often represent large-scale documentation efforts, they are frequently categorized as public domain, making high-quality reproductions available today as downloadable artwork.
