Raffaello Schiaminossi
Raffaello Schiaminossi was an artist known for his graphic work, documented as being active between 1602 and 1612. The artist’s known output consists primarily of prints, establishing him within the tradition of early 17th-century European printmaking.
Schiaminossi’s work displays a mixture of religious subjects and elaborate frontispiece designs created for published volumes. Religious themes are represented by images such as Geboorte van Christus (The Nativity), Bust of Christ, and Bust of the Virgin. His graphic work also extended to complex academic or classical imagery, evidenced by the Frontispiece with a trumpeter sounding trumpets seated on top of a cartouche flanked by trophies, part of the series The Twelve Caesars. Another significant design includes the Frontispiece with two figures holding scrolls and cherubs flanking the cartouche at center, created for 'The Consecrated Apostolic College' (Il sacrato collegio apostolico).
Raffaello Schiaminossi is recognized today through the works preserved in major international repositories. Approximately fifteen of the artist's prints are represented in major museum collections, a factor establishing their historical and artistic significance. These holdings include works at the Rijksmuseum, the National Gallery of Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Due to the historical nature of his output, these museum-quality prints often reside within the public domain, allowing for access to high-quality prints and downloadable artwork for researchers and enthusiasts.
