Pietro Paolo Coccetti
Pietro Paolo Coccetti is recorded as an artist active in 1710. His known body of work consists almost exclusively of detailed architectural and engineering studies, providing insight into early eighteenth-century design methods and planning. Fifteen drawings attributed to Coccetti are represented in museum collections.
Coccetti’s works demonstrate a technical expertise applied to both grand architectural projects and complex hydro-engineering proposals. Notable designs include the Design Elevation for an Interior Door in the Loggia of Pope Julius [III.], and multiple variations for external structures, such as Design for Palace Façade and Design for a Façade. Perhaps his most specialized work preserved is the Canalization of the Mouth of the Sasso Vino into the Lake of Castel Gandolfo: Perspective and Plan.
All of Coccetti's documented drawings are held in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Due to the high level of detail and historical significance of these works, they are frequently reproduced as high-quality prints for scholarly research. Many of Coccetti's surviving materials are now entering the public domain, making the drawings available as downloadable artwork for enthusiasts of architectural history.
