Pieter van der Plas

Pieter van der Plas was an artist active during the late 17th century, documented specifically in the year 1687. His surviving artistic output consists primarily of prints, establishing him as a practitioner of engraving and etching during the Dutch Golden Age period.

Nine of Van der Plas’s high-quality prints are preserved in museum collections, confirming the historical significance of his work. These prints demonstrate versatility in subject matter, encompassing classical mythology, religious themes, and portraiture. Notable examples include the mythological rendering Ceres, Bacchus en Venus and the biblical subject De zondeval. He is also known for producing multiple versions of the portrait Portret van Adriaan Dortsman.

The credibility of his oeuvre is established by its inclusion in the Rijksmuseum, a key institution for the documentation of Dutch art history. As works from this period often enter the public domain, many of Van der Plas's prints are available as downloadable artwork for scholarly study and general appreciation.
