Pierre Luc Charles Cicéri
Pierre Luc Charles Cicéri was active as a designer and draftsman for fifty years, with known works dating between 1792 and 1842. Five of his highly detailed drawings are currently represented in major institutional collections, confirming his importance as a documentarian and stage designer of the period. His work is held by institutions including the Rijksmuseum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Cleveland Museum of Art.
Cicéri’s documented repertoire demonstrates expertise across several genres. His studies encompass topographical and architectural subjects, such as the detailed rendering Inrit van een groot dorpshuis, van de binnenhof uit gezien and the atmospheric scene Landhuis tussen de bossen in een berglandschap. He also produced narrative studies, exemplified by Twee knielende lieden op de trap voor een kapelletje in de bergen.
Beyond landscape, Cicéri was a noted decorative and theatrical designer, producing works of historical note, such as the elaborate Decoration Executed for the Birthday of His Majesty the King of Westphalia. His commitment to major theatrical production is further confirmed by the preparatory Drawing for Wagner's "Le Vaisseau Fantôme," Paris Opéra. Many of these museum-quality originals are now entering the public domain, allowing for the circulation of high-quality prints and providing valuable insight into early nineteenth-century design practices.
