Pierre Louis Gatier

Pierre Louis Gatier was an artist active between 1898 and 1922, whose documented output consists entirely of prints. The subjects represented in his known body of work are diverse, ranging from character studies and specific locations to performance scenes.

His notable works include the detailed study Self-Portrait and the character piece Le vieux gentilhomme. Gatier also documented genre scenes and contemporary culture, evident in titles such as Acrobat at the Music Hall and Boeuf sur le Toit. Further works, such as the landscape Brebant Farm, indicate a breadth of subject matter.

Eight of Gatier’s prints are currently represented in museum collections, affirming institutional interest in his graphic output. The Cleveland Museum of Art is among the collections holding these works. As the majority of his career predates the mid-20th century, many of his prints have entered the public domain. This status makes high-quality prints of his work available to collectors and researchers, often as downloadable artwork for study.
