Michael Chomyk

Michael Chomyk was an artist whose active period is documented between 1938 and 1940. His known output focuses on the meticulous documentation of historical artifacts, described in catalog records as "index of american designs."

The entire body of work represented in institutional collections consists of seven such designs, highly valued for their detailed renderings of utilitarian and domestic objects. The professional, informative nature of these documents establishes them as significant records of material culture from the period.

Seven of Michael Chomyk's prints are preserved in museum collections, confirming the museum-quality of his output. The National Gallery of Art holds his works, including detailed studies such as Bishop Hill: Auger, Child's High Chair, Sun Dial, Trivet, and Hand Iron. Although his documented career was brief, the historical significance of the documents he created ensures continued interest. Today, much of this historical cataloging work falls within the public domain, allowing institutions and researchers to access high-quality prints of these designs.
