Matsumura Keibun (松村景文)
Matsumura Keibun (松村景文) was an artist documented as active between 1779 and 1898. While specific biographical details are often scarce, the quality and preservation of his works in major international institutions establish his importance. His output is represented in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago.
The artist’s known inventory consists of six documented works, including four individual paintings and one book format piece. The surviving Matsumura Keibun (松村景文) paintings focus on traditional natural imagery, including Bush Clover, Grass and Cricket, Nightingale on Willow Branch, Two Huts in Snow, and Plum Blossoms. An additional documented work, Tree Peonies and Chinese Poem on Peonies, further demonstrates his engagement with floral and literary subjects.
The inclusion of these works in major American museum collections validates their artistic merit and historical importance. Due to their age, many of these paintings are now available in the public domain, allowing institutions to offer high-quality prints and downloadable artwork derived from the original holdings.
