Martin Bernigeroth
Martin Bernigeroth was an artist and printmaker active during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. His documented professional period spanned from 1680 through 1704, during which time he focused exclusively on the production of prints, primarily in the genre of formal portraiture.
The scope of Bernigeroth's surviving output, consisting of 15 prints, establishes his role as a key figure in the period's tradition of reproductive and formal engraving. His works are held in institutional collections, confirming his historical relevance; examples of his prints are maintained by the Rijksmuseum.
The subjects documented in his existing oeuvre include several prominent historical figures. Notable among these high-quality prints are Portret van Franz Carl Leopold Prehorsowsky, Portret van Johann Brunnemann, and Portret van Karl I von Hessen-Kassel. Other preserved works include the formal portraits Portret van Margaretha Susanna von Kuntsch and Portret van Wilhelm von Behmen. Due to the age of these original works, much of the collection of Martin Bernigeroth prints is today considered public domain material, ensuring their continued availability for research.
