Lucille Lacoursiere
Lucille Lacoursiere was an American artist or documentarian whose documented output spans the years 1935 through 1939. Lacoursiere contributed fourteen works to the Index of American Designs, a comprehensive survey initiative aimed at documenting American decorative arts and material culture during the mid-twentieth century.
Lacoursiere’s pieces frequently focus on American commercial and folk sculpture. The works held in museum collections include multiple studies of popular commercial figures, such as Cigar Store Pocahontas and three distinct studies simply titled Cigar Store Indian. The artist’s documented output also includes a study of a Printed Textile.
These fourteen works provide essential archival records of period design and material culture. All documented works by Lucille Lacoursiere are held in the permanent institutional collections of the National Gallery of Art. Due to their archival nature and frequent release into the public domain, these studies are often accessible to researchers and are commonly utilized to produce high-quality prints. This availability allows for widespread access to Lucille Lacoursiere prints for educational and historical study.
