Lambertus Hardenberg
Lambertus Hardenberg was an artist primarily active between 1754 and 1837. His verifiable artistic output focuses exclusively on graphic media, documented across prints and drawings. Fifteen works by Hardenberg are represented in museum collections, including twelve prints and three drawings.
Hardenberg’s documented subjects fall into two distinct categories: detailed ornamental compositions and architectural or landscape studies. His ornamental work includes complex decorative studies such as Arabesken met vazen, Bladranken en guirlandes, and Vlechtwerk met bloemen. He also produced environmental and structural depictions, exemplified by the plate Complex met molen aan een rivier.
The standing of Lambertus Hardenberg prints is established through major institutional holdings, notably the Rijksmuseum, which preserves examples of his output. These historical, museum-quality works offer insight into late 18th and early 19th-century design and landscape illustration. Today, much of this body of work is available as downloadable artwork in the public domain.
