Kano Shōun
Kano Shōun was an artist active around 1600, based on documented artistic output and existing collection records. The surviving record of Shōun’s practice consists exclusively of paintings.
The artist’s work is held in major institutional collections, establishing their historical significance. Fifteen paintings attributed to Shōun are currently documented in databases, confirming a substantial body of museum-quality art from the period. These significant holdings include works accessioned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Among the specific works represented, the figure study is a recurring theme, notably the repeated subject documented under the title Immortal Poet.
