Jules Platier
Jules Platier was a printmaker active during the early decades of the 19th century, with documented work spanning the period 1820 to 1841. His known output focuses exclusively on graphic arts, suggesting a specialization in etching, lithography, or related techniques during a time of increased demand for widely distributed visual media.
Seven of Platier's prints are currently represented in museum collections, confirming his engagement with contemporary social and political themes. The breadth of his subject matter ranges from satirical commentary to depictions of public events. Notable titles include the political observation Vous l'avez emporté, mon cher, nommé à l'unanimite! and the complex scene Fête donnée à Tivoli en faveur des pensionnaires de l'ancienne liste civile le 3 Juin 1840. Platier also explored moralizing subjects, evidenced by the work Laissez venir à moi les petits enfants.
The institutional credibility of Platier’s work is established by holdings at the Cleveland Museum of Art. The surviving collection confirms Platier’s contribution to printmaking during his active period. Due to their age and inclusion in institutional holdings, many examples of Jules Platier prints are now considered part of the public domain, often available as downloadable artwork for scholarly or private study.
