Juanita Lantz

Juanita Lantz was active circa 1935, primarily as a contributor to the 9 index of american designs. This documentation project, established under the Works Progress Administration (WPA), aimed to create a comprehensive pictorial survey of historical American decorative arts, crafts, and folk objects.

Lantz's contributions focused on documenting domestic furniture and interior design elements. The verifiable works represented in museum collections include detailed renderings of early American designs, such as three distinct studies focusing on various types of Bed frames, as well as documentation of a Bench and a complete Dining Room Suite. These drawings function as historically precise records rather than interpretive artworks.

Today, documentation produced by Juanita Lantz is held in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Art, confirming the historical significance and museum-quality of the Index of American Design archive. The preservation of these unique records ensures that the Juanita Lantz prints documenting historical aesthetics remain available for scholarly review. Since many works created for the Index of American Design have entered the public domain, this material is widely accessible, often as downloadable artwork.
