Johann Jakob Kornmann

Johann Jakob Kornmann was an artist specializing in metalworks, active during the early 17th century. His documented career spans the period from 1600 to 1636.

Five of Kornmann’s known metalworks are preserved in major public institutions, establishing them as museum-quality objects for historical study. These pieces are held in collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Kornmann’s documented output centers on high-quality portraiture of European aristocracy and religious figures. The subject matter includes Christian William of Brandenburg (1587-1665), Archbishop of Magdeburg and Bishop of Halberstadt. The artist frequently depicted a singular important patron: four of the five known works focus on Paolo Giordano II Orsini (1591-1656), the Duke of Bracciano.

While the original metalworks remain secured in institutional collections, digital images of the artist’s output are often available as downloadable artwork. Reproductions of known Johann Jakob Kornmann prints are frequently shared through resources reliant on public domain material.
