Joannes de Bosch

Joannes de Bosch was an artist documented as active from 1723 through 1781. His known output focuses primarily on graphic media, with the verified inventory of his work comprising drawings and a singular print.

Eight works by De Bosch are represented in major museum collections, establishing his place within eighteenth-century graphic arts. The bulk of these holdings, including seven drawings and one print, are preserved by the Rijksmuseum. His subjects typically include landscape studies and preparatory sketches for allegorical or commemorative vignettes. Specific examples preserved in the collection include the landscape views Bosgezicht met vee op een pad and Klein landschap met figuren onder een rotsboog, as well as conceptual designs such as Ontwerp voor een vignet met een allegorische voorstelling and Gedenkplaat in een afgebrokkelde muur. The variety in these titles suggests the artist was engaged in both topographical observation and commercial design work.

Due to the age of the collection material, much of the documented work by Joannes de Bosch is now considered part of the public domain, providing valuable visual records of early modern drawing and printing practices. While there are no confirmed Joannes de Bosch paintings documented in these inventories, the surviving collection of drawings and his Joannes de Bosch prints ensures continued access to his oeuvre, often available today as high-quality prints for study and reference.
