Jean-Baptiste Hüet
Jean-Baptiste Hüet was an artist active across the latter half of the eighteenth century, spanning the years 1745 through 1798. The documented body of his work consists primarily of detailed drawings, supplemented by at least one print held in museum collections.
His subjects encompass detailed natural observations and pastoral figure studies. Noteworthy works represented in institutional holdings include the botanical drawings Flowering Plant with Buds, Flowering Plant with Grass, and Poppies with Seed Pods, alongside figure studies such as A Shepherd and a Shepherdess Resting. These drawings are frequently sought after as high-quality prints today.
A total of nine works by Hüet, comprising eight drawings and one print, are formally preserved in the collection of the National Gallery of Art. These museum-quality drawings establish Hüet as a figure concerned with both academic figure composition and precise naturalism. Given the age of the works, many Jean-Baptiste Hüet prints and drawings are now available in the public domain, providing valuable downloadable artwork for contemporary scholarship.
