Though no specific artistic movement is ascribed, the surviving Jan van der Bruggen prints feature genre subjects focusing on everyday tavern and domestic life, consistent with artistic trends of the era. These scenes often depict men smoking or drinking. Notable works include the variations of Boer stopt zijn pijp and Man met kan en wijnglas, as well as the specialized print Kroegscène met man die pijp aansteekt.
