Jan Broedelet

Jan Broedelet was a printmaker active during the late 17th century, with his documented period of production spanning the years 1670 through 1690. Five of his prints are known to be represented in major institutional holdings, confirming his historical significance in the field of graphic arts.

His subjects encompass allegory, genre scenes, and portraiture. Notable works held in museum collections include the seasonal prints Herfst and Lente, as well as the portrait Portret van Herman van Halen. He also produced the genre scene Jonge vrouw en oude man, which is documented twice in available records.

The entirety of Broedelet’s represented works are held in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. These museum-quality prints, reflecting the printmaking techniques of the era, are preserved for public access and scholarship. Today, several high-quality prints derived from these historical works are available via public domain initiatives.
