Jakob Lederlein

Jakob Lederlein is an artist documented by a concise period of activity spanning 1594 to 1596. His known output consists exclusively of prints, primarily focused on institutional or academic portraiture during the late 16th century.

Currently, six examples of Jakob Lederlein prints are represented in major collections, establishing his verifiable practice as a printmaker during this brief window. The majority of his surviving work is held by the Rijksmuseum. Documented prints highlight a focus on contemporary scholarly figures, including the portraits Portret van Johann Harpprecht, Portret van Erhard Cellius, Portret van Georg Liebler, and multiple iterations of Portret van Johannes Vischer.

The small corpus of surviving work provides essential evidence of late 16th-century European portrait printmaking. Due to the age of the works and the artist's known period of activity, these images are often in the public domain, ensuring preservation efforts can provide access to high-quality prints for research and historical study.
