J. Meyer

J. Meyer was a printmaker whose documented period of activity centers on the year 1845. His known output focuses on detailed topographical and architectural renderings, specifically depicting the imperial properties and landscape gardens outside St. Petersburg, Russia.

Meyer contributed extensively to the important mid-19th-century series Vues pittoresques des palais & jardins impériaux aux environs de St. Petersbourg. These works capture precise views of Russian grandeur, including the detailed renderings Le Palais Anglais à Peterhof, La Colonnade du Palais a Tzarskoé-Sélo, and the domestic scene depicted in Le Café au Jardin d'été à St. Pétersbourg.

Eight of J. Meyer’s prints from this significant series are represented in major museum collections, establishing the historical value and artistic precision of his work. Examples are held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, providing historical access to these views of imperial Russia. Due to their age, many J. Meyer prints are in the public domain, allowing institutions to make high-quality prints and downloadable artwork available for scholarship and study.
