Giovanni Battista Silvestri

Giovanni Battista Silvestri was an artist active between 1796 and 1816. The verifiable record of his work primarily centers on architectural drafts and topographical studies created during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

His known output includes five drawings that are represented in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Four of these documents concern architectural planning, specifically the design and execution of gallery spaces. This set includes an extensively documented series of three drawings identified as the Elevation "della nuova Galleria", complemented by the structural schematic Plan "della nuova Galleria".

Silvestri’s work also included detailed urban studies, exemplified by the drawing View of the Entrance to the Piazza del Duomo from the Piazza San Giovanni in Siena. The preservation of these architectural and topographical works in major collections provides insight into Italian draftsmanship of the period. Today, many historical records related to the artist's output, including these drawings, are often in the public domain, allowing for the creation of high-quality prints and downloadable artwork for study.
