Frederic Stuart Church

Frederic Stuart Church was active in the graphic arts landscape during the late nineteenth century, documented primarily between 1881 and 1892. Seven of his works are currently represented in institutional collections, confirming his focus on printmaking and drawing.

The documented output consists of five prints and two drawings. These works are preserved by the National Gallery of Art, establishing the quality and provenance of Frederic Stuart Church prints. Notable titles held in collections include the print A Pastoral, the allegorical A Lesson in Wisdom, the work Idyll, and two documented versions of The Mermaid.

While the total output remains undocumented, the survival of these pieces in major institutions ensures the artist’s continued relevance. The availability of this material, much of which has entered the public domain, allows for the production of high-quality prints suitable for study and museum-quality reproduction.
