François Marius Granet
François Marius Granet was an artist active during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, spanning the years 1785 through 1839. His preserved oeuvre reflects a focus on architectural studies, historical landscapes, and religious themes, often centered on Italian settings.
Granet's surviving works document subjects such as The Church of the Trinità dei Monti and the Villa Medici, Rome and the genre scene View in the Stables of the Villa of Maecenas, Tivoli. His interest in ecclesiastical life is evident in titles such as The Monks, Monk Seated Before a Ruined Gateway, and A Cardinal Examining a Painting in a Cloister.
Eleven of Granet’s compositions are represented across major institutional holdings, including five drawings, five paintings, and one print. These works are preserved in internationally recognized museum collections, specifically the Rijksmuseum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The documentation of François Marius Granet paintings and works on paper in these institutions establishes his historical standing. Today, many of these pieces reside in the public domain, allowing for the generation of high-quality prints and downloadable artwork derived from museum-quality masters.
