François Joseph Pfeiffer

François Joseph Pfeiffer was an artist whose documented professional activity occurred during the late 18th century, spanning the period of 1787 through 1795. His known output consists entirely of prints, encompassing both portraiture and landscape subjects.

Twelve of Pfeiffer’s prints are currently represented in museum collections, confirming the historical significance and museum-quality of his work. These holdings are preserved at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

Pfeiffer demonstrated a facility for detailed portraiture, exemplified by works such as Portret van Albertus Schippers and Portret van Jan Bernd Bicker, op 44-jarige leeftijd. His landscape and genre studies include Boerenjongen, Landschap met boerderij, and Landschap met een boerenschuur. These works provide insight into the visual culture and popular subjects of the Dutch late Baroque period.

Today, due to the age of the works, many François Joseph Pfeiffer prints are accessible in the public domain. This allows for the production of high-quality prints and downloadable artwork based on the original plates held in institutional collections.
