Filippo Porreca

Filippo Porreca was an artist active during a concentrated period between 1935 and 1937, whose documented output primarily consists of illustrations for the "index of american designs." This body of work documents historical American material culture and decorative arts.

Fifteen designs attributed to Porreca are preserved in museum collections, reflecting a meticulous approach to the recording of objects ranging from domestic furnishings to architectural ornamentation. Notable documented works include the Eagle, the Horse Weather Vane, the Pa. German Flat-iron Stand, the Table (Knee Hole), and the Trivet. These subjects establish Porreca's contribution to the visual record of early American craft and folk design.

The National Gallery of Art holds these important records, ensuring their continued access and study. Due to their documentation within the index of american designs, many of these detailed renderings, available as Filippo Porreca prints, are now part of the public domain, allowing for the reproduction of high-quality prints.
