Corrado Giaquinto
Corrado Giaquinto maintained an active artistic career spanning the years 1703 through 1755. Known for producing both detailed drawings and large-scale paintings, his documented works demonstrate a focus on historical, religious, and allegorical subjects spanning the first half of the eighteenth century.
Nine works by Giaquinto are represented across major American institutions, comprising four paintings and five drawings. His output documented in these collections includes classical narratives, such as the painting Aeneas and Siblyl, alongside significant religious compositions like Kneeling Ecclesiastic Saint and Saint Joseph Presented by the Virgin to the Holy Trinity. Allegorical and genre scenes are also present, exemplified by the painting Autumn and the complex, double-sided sheet titled Military Cavaliers Entering Town Accompanied by a Turbaned Torch-bearer. These varied works are held by institutions establishing the artist's historical significance, including the National Gallery of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Given the artist's period of activity, much of the material is now classified as public domain, allowing researchers and collectors to access high-quality prints for study. Interest in Corrado Giaquinto paintings continues through the availability of these historically important works.
