Cornelius Christoffels

Cornelius Christoffels was an artist active in 1935, whose documented output is exclusively related to the Index of American Designs (IAD), a seminal project developed under the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Christoffels contributed 15 works to the Index, providing detailed documentation of American decorative arts and material culture.

These works, which often took the form of illustrative renderings, are preserved in institutional archives. The National Gallery of Art holds documentation by Christoffels, including records detailing items like Beaded Bag, Bit, and the instructional study Beadwork: Technique Demonstration.

As official records created for the U.S. government, many of these Cornelius Christoffels prints are now considered to be in the public domain. This allows for increased access, with institutions often providing high-quality prints derived from the original documents for research and educational purposes.
