Portrait of Cornelis van der Griendt

Cornelis van der Griendt

Cornelis van der Griendt was a printmaker active in the mid-nineteenth century, with documented activity spanning the years 1832 to 1858. His known artistic output consists entirely of prints, fifteen of which are represented in institutional collections.

The subjects captured in his prints demonstrate an interest in both pastoral landscapes and dramatic nocturnal views. Notable works include the composition Landschap met koe (Landscape with Cow) and the repeated execution of the scene Nachtgezicht met een figuur in een boot (Nocturnal View with a Figure in a Boat). These documented Cornelis van der Griendt prints establish a record of his output during the period 1832-1858.

The definitive collection of the artist’s work is held by the Rijksmuseum, which preserves a significant number of his high-quality prints. The retention of these works in major institutions solidifies his placement within nineteenth-century printmaking history. As with many works of this era, the prints are often available through repositories where older art falls into the public domain.
