Corneille Seghers

Corneille Seghers is an artist documented primarily through works created around 1824. His surviving artistic output, as represented in major institutions, consists mainly of prints and preparatory drawings.

Eight works by Seghers are currently documented in museum collections, comprising six prints and two drawings, establishing his proficiency in graphic media. The entirety of these documented works is preserved in the expansive collections of the Rijksmuseum.

Notable among the prints are historical and political subjects such as Duc d'Alençon uit Antwerpen verjaagd and Frans Hercules van Anjou uit Antwerpen verjaagd. Seghers also created scenes focused on architectural decay, documented by two known impressions of Ruïnes van een abdij, alongside the figure study Man op de rand van zijn bed gezeten.

The documentation of these works provides crucial insight into early 19th-century graphic traditions. The availability of examples, such as the Corneille Seghers prints held by the Rijksmuseum, ensures ongoing scholarly access. As many historical graphic works enter the public domain, they are increasingly reproduced as high-quality prints for collectors and researchers globally.
