Portrait of Carlo Lasinio

Carlo Lasinio

Carlo Lasinio was an artist active across the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, working primarily between 1783 and 1814. His artistic practice centered on graphic arts and printmaking, encompassing both detailed portraiture and narrative compositions.

The significance of Lasinio’s output is established by the institutional holdings of his work in the United States, including those maintained by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Gallery of Art. Nine of his prints are currently represented in these museum collections.

Lasinio’s subjects range from historical portrait studies, such as Babo Giorgio, Antonio Vassilacchi, and Carlo Maratta, to contemporary figures like Portrait of Edouard Gautier-Dagoty, and narrative genre scenes exemplified by Huntsman Visiting a Lady. Today, as much of his historical work resides in the public domain, high-quality prints derived from the original plates are widely available for study. The preservation of these Carlo Lasinio prints in major collections ensures their continuing accessibility for art historical research.
