Auguste Numans

Auguste Numans was an artist active across the mid-19th century, with his documented career spanning 1833 to 1878. Numans specialized in producing prints, predominantly focusing on topographical views and landscapes.

The verifiable subjects of Numans's work reveal an interest in both urban and rural environments. His topographical work includes continental cityscapes, such as the pair of prints titled Gezicht op een stad, mogelijk Brugge, and ancient Roman architecture, as seen in Vismarkt bij de Porticus van Octavia te Rome. Alongside these urban scenes, Numans created pastoral landscapes featuring animal and genre elements, exemplified by Landschap met dieren en figuren op een weg langs een rivier and Landschap met koeien langs een rivier.

Auguste Numans is represented in major public collections, establishing the historical significance of his output. Nine prints associated with the artist are currently documented in the database, with holdings confirmed at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Due to the age of the material, many of these historical Auguste Numans prints are now considered part of the public domain. Researchers and collectors may access downloadable artwork representing these museum-quality compositions.
