Arnold Boonen
Arnold Boonen was an artist active during the late 17th and early 18th centuries, with documented output spanning the years 1679 through 1715. Known primarily for his portraits, his surviving documented works consist of both drawings and Arnold Boonen paintings.
The significance of Boonen’s oeuvre is evidenced by his representation in prestigious international collections, including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The documented works held in these institutions include two paintings and three drawings.
Key identified works emphasize his focus on figurative representation, notably the repeated subject Portret van Jan Pietersz. Zomer and the self-portrait, Zelfportret in ovaal. Other cataloged pieces include the preparatory study Portrait of a Man.
As an artist of this period, much of Boonen’s work is now considered public domain. These historical images allow for the dissemination of high-quality prints and other downloadable artwork derived directly from museum scans, ensuring the enduring availability of Arnold Boonen prints for study and appreciation.
