Anne Nemtzoff

Anne Nemtzoff was an artist active for a defined, short period between 1935 and 1940. Their documented contributions focus entirely on the comprehensive nationwide initiative known as the Index of American Designs (IAD).

The Index of American Designs was a component of the Federal Art Project, established to document and create accurate visual records of historical decorative and folk arts within the United States. Nemtzoff’s work involves precise, technical renderings of functional and decorative objects.

Eleven works documenting these objects are represented in museum collections. These documentations are held by the National Gallery of Art. Specific subjects rendered by the artist include various domestic and personal items, such as a Bracelet, a Flask, a Jar, and two separate instances documenting a Crock.

Due to the nature of their creation under a governmental project, works associated with the Index of American Designs, including the detailed Anne Nemtzoff prints, are frequently accessible in the public domain. Today, these historical documentations often serve as reference material, available as high-quality prints that reflect early 20th-century preservation efforts in American material culture.
