Andrea Guazzalotti
Andrea Guazzalotti was an artist known primarily for his metalworks, active across much of the 15th century, with his documented career spanning the period of 1400 to 1481.
Guazzalotti specialized in portraiture, specifically focusing on influential ecclesiastical and royal figures of the era. This focus is evidenced by his documented works, which include portraits of three separate popes: Pope Calistus III (Alphonso de Borgia, 1455-1458), Pope Sixtus IV (Francesco della Rovere, 1471-1484), and Pope Pius II. His royal subjects include portraits of Alfonso of Aragon and Alfonso of Aragon, Duke of Calabria (1448-1495).
A total of six metalworks by Guazzalotti are represented in museum collections, establishing his legacy as a significant medalist and portraitist. His material is preserved in institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, ensuring its status as museum-quality material for study. Today, many of these historical artifacts and their details are available as downloadable artwork for scholarly review or production as high-quality prints.
